References How to Save a Life

Okay, I'm having trouble finding a solid reference for this, but in some of Jason's interviews he mentions that when he writes a song that's going to be a hit, the music sounds so familiar to him that he feels like he's copying someone else. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Do you have a reference for this?

Edit: Thanks, Chimachanga! Here's the link to the Toazted interview.

reference Nice. The only specific reference I can think of is in the Toazted interview, Jason mentions that near the beginning.

I know exactly what you're talking about It's been in more than one interview. There was one interview where he talked about writing "Only One" but a roommate of his has just written a song called "Only One" and he thought it sounded similar. I'll try to find the interview. We might have to ask The Lifehouse Mystic for some help on this one.

Here's another quote I found: "People will always compare you to someone. To be honest, I'm more of a Kurt Cobain fan than I am of Eddie Vedder. I always say, man, I was trying to rip off Kurt Cobain, not Eddie Vedder. I don't know what happened!" he laughs. Source:
